Clinical Education at the University Hospital

radiology

The Interventional clinical education program is offered through the University, department of radiology to registered or registry eligible radiographers. Students in the final stages of their RT education or radiographers wanting to learn the skills of an interventional radiographer will complete supervised clinical education at the University Hospital. The applicants will be required to apply utilizing the admission procedures established for the MRI, CT and Nuclear Medicine program.

In order to be a qualified candidate for the ARRT post-primary certification examination in Vascular-Interventional studies, the candidate must complete and document the performance of a subset of 50 vascular-interventional procedures. The procedures include but are not limited to angiography, angioplasty, stent placement, embolizations, stone extractions, biopsies, thrombolytic therapy and central venous access/port placement. The candidate must complete a minimum of 10 of the identified 50 interventional procedures, with a minimum of 5 repetitions, a maximum of 20 for a total of 200 repetitions.

The University becomes an academic partner with the student in this program. The student expresses an interest in learning interventional radiography and submits appropriate application paperwork. The University will interview, select and place the student. In this environment the student will work under direct supervision of qualified technologists, nurses and radiologists to learn the required skills.

The cost of the partnership is $2,000.00.
