Dr. Winter received his BA with a double major in math and physics from Duke University (Phi Beta Kappa) in 1980, and an MA in Physics and MD (Alpha Omega Alpha), also from Duke, in 1986. His residency was at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at Washington University (1990), and fellowship at the University of Washington in Body Imaging (1991).
His primary interest is patient care, followed closely by teaching. He has given over 450 invited lectures, 95 of which were outside of the USA (including all continents except Antarctica and Africa). Research interests have included obstetric sonography, musculoskeletal sonography, ultrasound guided biopsies, tumor ablation, virtual colonoscopy, abdominal transplant organ imaging, and the multistep progression of hepatocellular carcinogenesis. His CV lists two books, 29 book chapters, 93 refereed scientific publications, 111 scientific presentations, two patents pending, and one patent.
Away from work, he attempts to spend as much time as possible with his family enjoying the stunning outdoor scenery that is found throughout the incredibly beautiful state of Utah.
