Women's Imaging Fellowship
This fellowship can be customized depending on the career goals of the applicant. The two options are Breast Imaging or combined Breast Imaging and Ultrasound.
Breast Imaging
The Breast Imaging Department is based in the Huntsman Cancer Hospital with two peripheral outpatient clinics offering community based screening mammography. Screening and diagnostic mammograms are performed daily. All diagnostic mammography, ultrasound and interventional procedure are done at the Huntsman Cancer Hospital.
The fellowship provides specialty training in all areas of breast imaging and intervention including digital mammography, ultrasound and magnetic resonance imaging. Biopsies and preoperative wire localizations are performed with stereotactic, ultrasound or MR guidance as needed. A multi-disciplinary conference in breast cancer management is held weekly. There is an established breast cancer research group and fellows are welcome to participate in research projects.
Breast Imaging and Ultrasound
This option consists of 50 % breast imaging and 50% ultrasound with particular emphasis placed on high-risk obstetric ultrasound and gynecologic imaging including sonohysterography and pelvic MR imaging. We are also a fetal magnetic resonance imaging referral center.
Obstetric ultrasound is performed in the Maternal Fetal Diagnostic Center which is run jointly by the Departments of Radiology and Maternal Fetal Medicine. The Women's Imaging fellow has the opportunity to work with faculty from both departments while training in OB ultrasound. A bi-weekly multi-disciplinary conference in prenatal diagnosis affords an additional opportunity for educational advancement.
In addition to specialist training fellows may be asked to help with general staffing requirements up to 2 days per month. All fellows participate in the general (non-neuro, non-IR) call schedule. Fellows may participate in the “nighthawk” rotation, this is a paid assignment from 6-10pm weekdays covering general radiology.
Fellows are encouraged to participate in research and a budget is available to sponsor attendance at a meeting if a presentation is accepted.
