Be a Mentor

Mentor Program

My experience with the mentor program has provided me with more than I had ever expected. My mentor made a tremendous effort in assisting me with my future career decisions and helped me find a research mentor for the summer.

My mentor is not only an excellent role model for my medical school education, but also one of my best friends! I can't wait to work with him during my Family Medicine rotation this winter; I know there is much more I can learn from him about the practice of medicine.
--Andrew

My mentor was awesome. He is a great teacher, educator and mentor. I felt he added to my learning on how to interact with patients as well as eye health and disease.

Alumni Association

The Mentor Program

The purpose of the Mentor Program is to bring medical students and alumni together in a one-on-one relationship in which you are able to share your perspective of the practice of medicine and your specialty.

Students gain relevant knowledge that they may not learn in the academic setting and a better understanding of professional life in medicine.  The program helps guide students as they make plans and prepare for a professional career.

In general, mentors can plan on a commitment of 5 to 15 hours throughout the year (including phone calls, personal notes, office visits, and other activities.  This is a small, but vitally important commitment that enables all students and physicians to have a meaningful mentor experience.

We encourage you to become a medical student mentor by completing the online form.  You may also call (801) 581-8591.
